Behind Blue Eyes

My mom had a scare today! While I was reading "The Necklace"; she looked at my eyes and noticed there is blue around them. She asked me frantically,

"Tobi! Are you going blind?!"

I looked up at her, "No I'm not. I'm reading."

And she found out that Algerian chocolate coloured hedgehogs commonly have blue sclera...aka blue rings around the beady black eyes. I didn't know that either!

My mom thought she knew soooo much about hedgehogs but I keep reminding her that there is so much more to me than she thinks.

I'm getting fleece liners!

Snoooozzee....snoooozzzeee.....snoooozzzzeeee....

Mommy is going to buy me fleece liners for my home! She says it will be better for me to live in than pine shavings. But she will still put a box of pine shavings in my play area for me to snuffle in. She is also going to cut up some fleece strips for me to snuffle around in for my home.

That's nice and all....but she is also going to try to find an untippable water dish! What a meanie! I really don't mind her coming to see me every few hours of the night to change it for me. Not at all!

"I'm not falling for it!"

Hello, my name is Tobi.

On Friday a girl with hands that smelled like fruit came to see me. She said to my human mommy that I was a sweetie-pie that was obviously well socialized. What does socialize mean? I wasn't really paying attention after that, I wanted to go for a run! The girl put me down in my bin again and said she'd be back for me on Sunday. Is she going to give me some yummy food when she comes back?

A couple of moonsets later she was back! She talked to my mommy again and put me in a little box with holes and some bedding in it. It's dark so it's nice. This is fun! Or at least I thought at first. I could feel my little cozy box move and sway a little, and it made me feel dizzy. The girl told me her name is Laura and that she's my new mommy. She would check on me in the little box. I was nervous and felt sick, so I threw up. She wanted to hold me but left me alone.

Before I knew it, I was in a strange apartment! My new mommy put me in a strange home, much like the one I used to have but I can tell it isn't the same! She watched me for a little while and I burrowed into a corner and fell asleep.

I woke up that night the moment mommy turned off the lights to go sleep. I ran around my new home, I must explore every hedgiemeter! Turning over my water dish is so much fun! I love throwing my bedding in the water too. Mommy kept waking up to give me fresh water and to see what I was doing. She wanted to make sure I was drinking some water. I did drink water, but it tastes different. Anyways I really like playing with my water. The sixth time she changed my water she said,

"You really like doing that don't you?". Her eyes were red and she slumped a little as she walked away to the kitchen, water dish in hand. She put it in the same corner and I innocently walked up to it. I could feel her tired gaze so I took a few sips. She went back to bed. I put some more bedding in the water before turning it over. I sat in it too for a while. I like water!

I also really like exploring. But I can't seem to climb over and out of my home. I like to try a lot though. I reach up as high as I can on my tippy toes and try to lift myself with my front legs. Ehhhnnnn.....hasn't worked yet though. Mommy wonders why I do this so much. When she sees me doing this, after a while she sometimes lets me go into what she calls the "play area".

In the play area are some toys. They are kind of fun. But what I really want to know is what is on the other side of the door? It smells different over there. Is there food on the other side? Something for me to dig into? When I am in the play area mommy sometimes gives me little pieces of watermelon! I like it a lot!

Yesterday she came home from work, and said, "I know your name now! Your name is Tobi!"

I like my new mommy and my new name. My mommy lets me sleep all day and waits to play with me until I wake up. Isn't that nice?
